  • Rally Guidelines
GDARC has a number of risk management guidelines in place aimed at providing a reasonably safe environment for members, horses and volunteers.

Group Lessons at Rallies
Lessons at GDARC rallies may include between 1 and 4 riders. Where ever possible we aim to group riders according to combinations level or experience and ability. We ask that members advise of their experience at time of booking to ensure we are able to do this.

To ensure lessons are safe and everyone has a good time please follow these arena
etiquette guidelines:
  1. In general, riders should pass left shoulder to left shoulder.
  2. Remain on the inside track when working at the walk.
  3. When on a circle ride on the inside line when riding slower than other riders.
  4. Announce, in a loud voice, when you are entering and exiting the arena.
  5. Keep at least one horse’s length between you and another horse. Circle off if you are getting too close
  6. Don’t ride up the tail of any horse. Turn across the arena.
  7. When the lesson is underway the person under instruction should have the right-of-way. Other riders in the arena can be listening to the instructor and anticipating where the horse and rider in the lesson will be going next
  8. Green horses and beginner riders should be given more space by more experienced riders, who also should keep an eye out for the possible out-of-control moments that green horses and riders may experience.

Preparing for riding at a rally
If you are planning to come to a rally please consider if you and your horse are both fit and healthy enough to attend. Horses with lameness or other health issues (such as lack of fitness) may be asked to discontinue lessons.

First Aid at rallies
First Aid kits for humans and horses can be found in the club rooms in the cupboards at the end of the building (opposite end to toilets. An AED defibrillator can be found in the first aid room in the club house.

Cancellation due to weather and hazards at grounds

The GDARC committee in conjunction with the IR Robertson Reserve will make a decision to cancel a rally as soon as reasonably possible in the case that the weather or other conditions make it un-safe to proceed with the rally. Members will be notified through email, text and/or via Facebook.

Stallions at rallies
Stallion ID kits must be used at all times during Club rallies
Stallions must not be moved around venue without a bit.
Stallions must be securely double tied or kept in a float, horse truck, stable or steel yard when not being ridden to ensure safety for all horses.

Dogs at rallies
You may bring dogs to rallies though they must remain on a lead at all times.
