Gisborne & District Adult Riding Club was formed in 1991 and was originally called the Couangalt Riding Club. The club currently has around 70 members.
We welcome all levels of riders and all breeds, steeds and genders. Our members vary from those who have been riding for many years, to those who have only recently started riding or may just be returning from a long break. Our aim is for riders to enjoy themselves and learn something along the way. We encourage our members to attend rallies and to go out and compete if they wish. We have had teams in all of the HRCAV Top Team Trophy events, often with riders who have not been out and about much before. We are located at the IR Robertson Reserve, Couangalt Road, Gisborne South. The grounds are well equipped with sand arenas, a cross country course, a brand new club house, shedding, wash-bays and yards. Our club uniform colours are very appealing being navy blue, pale blue and white. |
Rallies
Rallies are held every 2nd Saturday of the month. Held at the club grounds we offer dressage, poles, showjumping and cross country lessons. Occasionally over winter we hold our rallies at an indoor arena. We like to make our rallies social occasions. They include one hour lessons with groups of 2-3 riders and lunch is generally available between 12pm and 2pm. Riders may choose to do more than one lesson each rally.
Members will receive an email a few weeks before each rally that will include details of instructors and booking information.
Rallies are $40 for one lesson (e.g. only dressage) or $65 for two (e.g. for dressage and jumping) or $95 for three. Lunch is included in the rally fee. Winter rallies held indoors will incur an additional fee to cover the cost of using the facilities. This will be advised when bookings are open.

Congratulations to our members Karen and Bianca at the recent HRCAV AGM
Huge congratulations to our member, Bianca (above left), who at the recent HRCAV AGM was recognised for being in the Top 10 Showing combinations over the year.
And a huge congratulations to our long standing member, Karen (above right), who was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Award for her services to our club and the HRCAV. Here's a few paragraphs from Karen on her achievements over the years.
"The HRCAV held their AGM Friday night and I was very humbled and honoured to receive a Meritorious service award. This award recognises the contributions I've made to my club over the years and also in an official capacity (currently a senior show judge and level assessor, past exec and sub committee member)
I've been a very proud member of the HRCAV for 23 years and am eternally grateful for the level playing field they offer to riders.
It's a fantastic organisation and as a competitor and judge I've meet some of my all time favourite people. Thank you to the exec committee for providing this award, the HRCAV officials who give up their time to judge so I can compete, the clubs who hold the competitions, my great club at Gisborne...committee past and present, the competitors and fellow members and a great bunch of friends.
Mostly to my horses who have done this with me for 23 years - Rick, Hugh, Rossi and now Ruby ...even Sam ...thank you. We've traversed Victoria and competed in TTT events in all 6 disciplines...cant do any of this without you"
